United By The Moment

Moments. Some moments destroy us as tragedy hits. Some moments shape our ideals and values as we are creatures of influence. Other moments leave deep scars that are hard to erase. But then there are those moments that unite us…a shared moment in time that connects us together to create a bond that will last a lifetime.
One such moment was when the God of the Universe entered humanity in the form of Jesus Christ. From that moment all who would follow Him would be united, tied together by an instant in time. Then came His death, a moment in time, although horrific, united us to our Saviour. Then the most glorious moment of all…a moment that defines us and shapes our lives and churches, this moment was Jesus’ resurrection.
It was in these collective moments in the life of Jesus that the scene is set for everything that would follow Him. Every church that would be built, every relationship connection established, every agreement made and every path travelled could now be defined by those moments. These moments have given our purpose and our mission.
The Ephesian Church had begun with this in mind. In a world of division and destruction, Paul led the Ephesian Christians to moments in time where Jesus’ life, death and resurrection would unite them like nothing else. Showing the association between the Gospel message of Jesus and how it is lived out in the day-to-day, Paul reveals that the moment Jesus enters, all things shift, change and are bathed in His light. All things are put into alignment of their intended meaning. All things begin to make sense.
As we allow the divine moments of history affect our “today”, we start to see the common factor…Jesus came to unite man to God and man to man. Relationships replace religion. The body of Christ functions without tension. Love for others replaces selfishness. Husbands love wives correctly. Wives come along side passionately. Children relate to parents honourably. Employees serve obediently. Employers relate with godly fear.
When unity flows, the dominion of Satan crumbles. Offences are brought to nothing and God’s people live under His authority and identity. Truth, righteousness, readiness, faith, salvation and the power of God’s Word, all unite to secure our destiny as people redeemed by Jesus and tied together for a mission of eternal significance. The moment Jesus entered division and distance fled. The gap was bridged and the new age of unity established.
